Thato Matabane is the founder and creative director of Afrikanswiss. He studied an advanced certificate in Fashion Design at SewAfrica. Thato then worked at the Woolworths chain store as a visual merchandiser. It was in 2006 while studying at SewAfrica that he established a clothing brand called Kafa which evolved to Afrikanswiss. In 2010 Thato went on to intern and later worked as a designer and operations manager at House of Ole. It was here that he worked on the Loxion Kulca South African Fashion Week projects as an assistant designer for 3 seasons.
In 2013 Thato left House of Ole to pursue Afrikanswiss. 2014 – Afrikanswiss opened its first and Africa’s first denim boutique in Johannesburg. This was also the year he did his first show at South African Fashion Week.
