LAGOS SPACE PROGRAMME” is a genderfluid label designed by Adeju Thompson, based in Lagos, Nigeria on the African continent. Lagos Space Programme is the International Woolmark Prize winner 2023, the first African to win this prestigious fashion award. The label offers intellectual, ready-to-wear high-end crafted collections while exploring parallel concepts through multidisciplinary collaboration projects. The name of the label reflects the brand’s ethos/manifesto, a name grounded in the roots but still looking outward; a theme rooted within the notion of African futures.
Founded in 2018, the projects, or collections, aim to explore African futures through a lens informed by slow fashion and by dissecting the intersection of Thompson’s life experiences, thereby communicating ideas of individuality, and proposing new ways to understand beauty. The label educates and highlights Africa’s progressive past pre-colonization. There are wrong misconceptions and Thompson believes fashion really has the ability to shift cultural prejudices.
